...but it’ll do.

‘08 Tundra that my cousin bought last week , and then I drove it for 400 out of 500 miles on the trip home. With both of those bikes in the bed and the two of us (both over 200 lbs) in the cab, we were likely just over the 6900 lb GVWR.

Most of the trip we got about 14.5 mpg, but on the last 100 mile leg, I hypermiled it to see what we could squeeze out of the 2UZ-FE.

17.5 MPG!

Don’t let the curved styling fool you, this truck is huge. Those are 20" wheels and they look almost small.

And the 6'7" bed, while not long enough to accommodate two motorcycles with the tailgate up, will contain one when parked diagonally:

But the best part?

An undercarriage clean enough to eat off of. Southern trucks ftw.

I like the shape of the rear door & window. I don’t remember the Tundra’s having that design. Looks good. About the same mileage as my 19 Mustang GT. :)

They had two different four-door cabs. I reckon you’re thinking of the CrewMax that has rear doors as big as the fronts.

That’s impressive gas mileage. My dad’s Tundra with the 5.7L is lucky to get 12mpg.

I’ve heard that the 5.7l typically gets better fuel economy than the 4.7.

You know what, now that I think about it there are two caveats that my dad learned this summer and told me about.

1. He’s a top off-er at the gas pump, squeezing in an extra couple of gallons after first click. He’s learned that this drowns the evap system and hurts fuel economy.

2. The 5.7L’s are flex-fuel, and some of the early ones in this generation have problems with the sensors in the tank that detect what the ethanol content is. And a symptom of this problem is bad fuel economy.

Double cab pictured, not the crew cab.

Crew cab was limited to the short short beds though;
